Bean the Astronaut

Bean the Astronaut is a happy-go-lucky space explorer that can do whatever a happy-go-lucky space explorer imagines, and has fun doing it.

Bean was named in part after Apollo 12 astronaut Alan Bean, the only artist to have walked on the Moon. Alan Bean was portrayed in the Apollo 12 episode of HBO’s “From the Earth to the Moon,” “That’s All There Is,” as good-natured and optimistic, even if things don’t quite go as planned on the mission. (True story: Apollo 12 was struck by lightning during launch).

The other part of the name origin story is of a childhood friend of Hernandez, declaring to his mother when asked to “act like human beings,” “We ain’t no BEANS MOMMY!” Maybe we are human beings and Beans all the same.
